There’s a first time for everything and this was my first stained glass window!
How it started..
Last year I was approached by a client to design and create a completely bespoke stained glass window and 6 panels for their interior porch door. Daunting much? Absolutely.
This process began by sketching out several designs on paper (old school) and then working with my very talented tattoo artist daughter Beth Kweeday as her Procreate skills FAR outweigh mine.
We chatted about colours and once the shades of glass were chosen sourcing the gorgeous glass began.
Progress..
Once I had the design printed to scale and secured onto my workbench I began work on cutting each individual piece of glass. We opted for a beautiful textured piece as a circular focal point which looks like copper fire when the light hits it. Chef’s kiss indeed.
It was a laborious process to hand cut, grind and foil each piece. Once that was completed then it was time to solder. The ‘tiffany’ stained glass method of copper foiling was utilised then framed with lead came.
Will I do it again?
Yes! The client was happy and I did a cracking job if I do say so myself. I prefer to work on pieces that aren’t traditional and therefore have more room for artistic interpretation so any future windows will take that approach. I like to design pieces that nobody else has that can fit to specific tastes within homes.
Finer details..
As always, I approached the fabulous Ella McConville to visit our stained glass studio to capture the following images of the finished piece.
Want your own?
This particular design can’t be made again as it was a bespoke piece for the client BUT I’m happy to work with you to create your own, whether it’s an alternative piece such as this or something else.
